Some players may already have multiple Diablo 4 characters, in case they wanted to experiment with different classes and builds. This should speed up travel in the early game, since players no longer have to travel across Diablo 4's expansive map to reveal its obscure corners and unlock fast travel. All waypoints and fog of war cleared will remain so on the player's map as long as they transfer their progress over to their seasonal character. Revealing the map can also be a time-consuming effort in Diablo 4 thankfully, players don't have to do it all over again when the season begins. Players will have to complete the core campaign before beginning the Season of the Malignant content, so those who haven't hit that milestone yet should prioritize the main story ahead of Season 1's release. Although they can't carry over story progress directly, those who have already completed Diablo 4's main campaign will be able to choose the Skip Campaign option when creating a new character, allowing them to roam freely from the very start. Players who have spent hours grinding in Diablo 4's pre-season will see their efforts rewarded when Season 1 begins.
